Maroons to Travel to Kean for NCAA Sectional
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago women's basketball team will travel to Kean University in Union, New Jersey, to participate in the 2008 NCAA Division III Championship sectionals beginning Friday, Mar. 14.
Chicago (22-5) will face host Kean (27-3) in Friday's second sectional semifinal game tentatively scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (EDT). Friday's first semifinal contest will pit Oglethorpe University (25-5) against William Smith College (25-3) at 5:30 p.m. The winners will meet Saturday at 6 p.m. for the opportunity to advance to the national semifinals.
Tickets available at $7 for adults and $4 for students will be available at the door.
Chicago earned the opportunity to advance to the national sectionals (round of 16) after winning two games at last weekend's regional in Stevens Point, Wis.
The Maroons edged the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) 62-59 in first-round play before defeating St. Norbert College 65-52 in Saturday's regional final.
The University Athletic Association champion, Chicago is making its second NCAA postseason appearance and first since 1995. Last Friday's win over St. Thomas marked the program's first-ever NCAA tournament victory.
