Maroons Win Third Straight

CHICAGO -- Sophomore forward Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the University of Chicago women's basketball team to a 67-55 non-conference win over Rhodes College Tuesday night at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Hackney connected on nine of 16 attempts from the field and pulled down eight offensive boards en route to her second double-double of the season and third of her career. Led by Hackney, the Maroons outrebounded Rhodes (5-4) by a 54-26 margin.

Chicago (8-2) never trailed in the contest and held a double-digit advantage for the game's final 4:58.

The Maroons led 39-32 at the intermission. Rhodes pulled to within three points, 50-47, on an Ashley Farrell basket with 12:06 left in the game. Farrell led all scorers with 24 points.

Chicago then held the Lynx scoreless for the next 5:53 while increasing its lead to 59-47.

Senior forward Nicaya Rapier (Munster, Ind./ Bishop Noll) was the only other Maroon to net double figures. She tallied 10 points to go along with six rebounds (four offensive).

Junior guard Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) came off the bench to hand out a game-high five assists as the Maroons won their third straight game and improved to 4-1 at the Ratner Center.
