Maroons Defeat #7 Rochester
CHICAGO -- Junior guard Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the second half as the University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated the seventh-ranked University of Rochester 56-46 in University Athletic Association play Friday at the Ratner Athletics Center.
Chicago (14-5 overall, 5-3 UAA) trailed 44-39 with 7:41 left in the game before outscoring the Yellowjackets 17-2 the rest of the way.
Leach, who accounted for nine of the Maroons' final 17 points, gave Chicago the lead for good, 46-44, with a three-point basket at the 4:34 mark.
Chicago connected on eight of 10 free throw attempts during the game's final 3:17 and was perfect on six tries in the final minute.
The Maroons led 24-23 after a first half that featured seven lead changes. Senior guard Nofi Mojidi's (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) layup with 32 seconds remaining in the period gave Chicago the halftime edge.
Mojidi finished the game with 13 points as Chicago non-starters produced 39 of the team's 56 points. Mojidi and sophomore forward Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) each pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Helen Baroody and Melissa Alwardt paced Rochester (17-2, 7-1) with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
