Maroons Win UW-Eau Claire Tournament;
Extend Non-Conference Win Streak to 30
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Senior guard Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) led three Maroons in double figures with 14 points as the University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 56-49 in the championship game of the UWEC Thanksgiving Showcase.
With the victory, Chicago improved to 4-0 on the season and notched its 30th consecutive non-conference win.
Chicago led for most of the first half until Heidi Arciszewski's jumper with 47 seconds left in the period gave the Blugolds (3-1) a 22-21 lead.
The Maroons regained the advantage 18 seconds later on a layup from sophomore guard Jamie Stinson (Topeka, Kan./ Shawnee Heights), giving Chicago a 23-22 edge at the intermission. Stinson, the tournament MVP, tallied 12 points on the evening.
The Maroons outscored Wisconsin-Eau Claire 9-0 during the first 3:06 of the second stanza to take a 32-22 lead. Senior forward Nicaya Rapier (Munster, Ind./ Bishop Noll) accounted for six of those nine points. She finished the night with 11 points.
A pair of Mojidi free throws at the 5:37 mark gave Chicago its largest lead of the night, 47-34. The Maroons led by at least seven points the rest of the way.
Mojidi and sophomore forward Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) joined Stinson on the all-tournament team.
Arciszewski paced the Blugolds with a game-high 16 points.
