Maroons Fall at Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. -- Wheaton (Ill.) College's Carrie Glass scored a game-high 15 points, including a pair of key baskets during a late second-half surge, to lead the host Thunder to a 55-47 win over the 16th-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team.

Wheaton (6-3) led 24-21 at halftime and was ahead or tied until the 8:13 mark of the second period when senior guard Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) hit a pair of free throws to put Chicago (5-2) on top 39-37.

Glass then scored four points during an 8-0 Wheaton run which gave the Thunder a 45-39 advantage with 5:31 remaining.

Chicago closed to within three points, 49-46, on a Mojidi layup with 1:21 to play, but Wheaton's Kathleen Fidelia answered with a basket at the 1:05 mark. The Maroons managed just one point in the game's final minute.

Junior guard Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) paced the Maroons with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. She connected on three of five attempts from three-point range.

Whitney Edgecombe turned in a double-double for Wheaton with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
