Chicago Finishes 2nd at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. -- Senior Hannah Moots (Nashville, Tenn./ University School) led three Maroons among the top 10 individual finishers as the University of Chicago women's cross country team placed second at the Elmhurst College Invitational in its 2007 debut Friday afternoon.

Moots captured fifth place with a time of 15:24.70 on the four-kilometer course.

Junior Julia Moriarty (Rockville, Md./ Walter Johnson) and freshman Elizabeth Lawton (North Easton, Mass./ Thayer Academy) also turned in top-10 performances. Moriarty clocked a time of 15:32.32, good for eighth place, while Lawton covered the course in 15:34.94 to finish 10th.

Freshman Molly Peverada (Hampden, Maine/ Hampden) narrowly missed the top ten in her first collegiate competition, as she finished 12th with a time of 15:46.89.

North Park University's Hannah Landecker took top honors with a winning time of 14:46.26 -- more than 14 seconds faster than the runner-up.

Loras College edged Chicago 42-52 for the team title. The Illinois Institute of Technology claimed third place at the 13-team event with 113 points.
