Maroons Place Sixth at NCC Invite
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Led by junior Ben Hart's (Wood Dale, Ill./ Fenton) third-place performance, the University of Chicago wrestling team captured sixth place at the 16-team North Central College Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Hart won four of five bouts at 133 pounds en route to a third-place finish. Seeded fourth in the weight class, Hart won his first two matches before dropping a major decision to the NCAA Division III's top-ranked 133-pounder, North Central's Adam Johnson. Hart then won a pair of decisions in the consolation bracket.
Six other Maroons earned top-six finishes, including junior Justin Lucas (Medford, N.J./ Shawnee) and freshman Ryan Hatten (Florissant, Mo./ McCleur North), who claimed fourth place at 184 pounds and heavyweight, respectively.
Junior heavyweight Tom Nero (Carlisle, Ind./ Sullivan) placed fifth at heavyweight, while junior 125-pounder Zach Matayoshi (Kaneohe, Hawaii/ Iolani), sophomore 165-pounder Troy Carlson (Cary, Ill./ Cary Grove), and freshman 174-pounder David Kneisel (Barrington, Ill./ Barrington) each finished sixth.
The 12th-ranked host Cardinals edged 26th-ranked Elmhurst College for the team title 126.5-113.0.
