Chicago Announces 2008-09 Newcomer
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago Head Wrestling Coach Leo Kocher announced today that Jimmy Schoettle (Indianapolis, Ind./ Perry Meridian) has enrolled at the University and plans to wrestle for the Maroons beginning in 2008-09.
Schoettle placed third in the 112-pound weight class at the 2007 Indiana High School State Tournament and has compiled a record of 44-2 for Perry Meridian High School, the second-ranked team in Indiana.
“Jimmy has a relentless wrestling style that will serve him well at the collegiate level. His intelligence and work ethic make him an excellent fit for the University of Chicago’s athletics and academics,” Kocher said.
“Jimmy is passionate about his sport and wrestles much of the year. He has won multiple Freestyle and Greco Roman Indiana State titles and is a Greco and Freestyle All-American.”
A First Team Academic All-State selection of the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association, Schoettle was ranked by Intermat – a website that covers wrestling nationally – as the 10th-best recruit to come out of Indiana in 2008.
