Maroons Win Season Debut
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago wrestling team opened its 2007-08 season with a 22-18 victory over Wheaton (Ill.) College Wednesday evening at the Ratner Athletics Center.
Chicago trailed the match 18-16 before junior heavyweight Tom Nero (Carlisle, Ind./ Sullivan) pinned Wheaton's (0-1) Chase Campbell at the 5:42 mark of the evening's final bout.
Junior Jeff Harman (Boulder, Colo./ Boulder), sophomore Troy Carlson (Cary, Ill./ Cary Grove), and freshman David Kneisel (Barrington, Ill./ Barrington) each won by decision.
Harman notched a 4-1 win at 149 pounds to tie the match at 9-9. Carlson and Kneisel then posted back-to-back victories at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively, to put the Maroons on top 16-12.
Chicago has won four consecutive dual matches dating back to last season.
