Chicago Drops UAA Road Opener
PITTSBURGH -- Carnegie Mellon University's Abigail Coffin scored three goals to lead the host Tartans to a 3-1 win over the University of Chicago women's soccer team in University Athletic Association action Saturday at Gesling Stadium.
The UAA's second-leading goal scorer at the start of the day, Coffin tallied the only goal of the first half when she headed in a teammate's free kick in the 24th minute.
The score remained 1-0 until late in the match when the teams combined for three goals in the final eight minutes.
Coffin notched her second goal of the day off a free kick at the 83:09 mark.
Chicago (6-3-2 overall, 0-1-1 UAA) cut the gap to 2-1 at 84:32 when sophomore midfielder Claire Gill (Los Altos Hills, Calif./ King's Academy) converted a cross from junior midfielder Siggy Nachtergaele (Davis, Calif./ Davis) for her first goal of the season.
Carnegie Mellon (6-4, 1-1) put the game away with 1:44 remaining on Coffin's third goal of the afternoon.
