Maroons Win Chicago Invite
CHICAGO -- Freshman Ellie Elgamal (San Diego, Calif./ Bishop's School) set a school record, and fellow first-year Charlotte Richman (Hoboken, N.J./ High Tech) won a pair of events as the University of Chicago women's swimming & diving team won the 11-team Chicago Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool.
Elgamal established a school record with a time of 1:01.61 in the 100-yard backstroke leading off the Maroons' 400-yard medley relay team. Elgamal also won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.74.
Richman took top honors in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.74) and 100-yard butterfly (1:02.33).
Sophomore Cassie O'Neill (Roseburg, Ore./ Roseburg) led the way in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.74).
Chicago, which won three of the five relay events, edged the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 831-799.5 for the team title. Lawrence University was next with 519.5 points.
