Maroons Defeat Grinnell, Lake Forest
CHICAGO -- Freshmen Ellie Elgamal (San Diego, Calif./ Bishop’s School) and Katherine Leonard (Carlsbad, Calif./ Cathedral Catholic) posted school-record performances as the University of Chicago women's swimming & diving team swept Grinnell College and Lake Forest College in dual meet competition Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool.
The Maroons edged Grinnell 155-139 and defeated Lake Forest 220-53 to raise their dual meet record to 4-1.
Elgamal, who also led the way in the 100-yard freestyle (55.30 seconds), clocked a Chicago all-time record of 1:02.08 en route to a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Leonard established a school standard with a winning time of 2:15.57 in the 200-yard backstroke.
Five other Chicago swimmers and divers won their respective events.
