Chicago Wins Maroon Invitational

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago women's swimming & diving team set four school records and one pool mark en route to a first-place finish at the nine-team Maroon Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool.

Chicago edged Washington (Mo.) University 834-824 for the team title. Kalamazoo College (744 points) and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (549) placed third and fourth, respectively.

Freshman Ellie Elgamal (San Diego, Calif./ Bishop’s School) set school and pool records as she won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.06 seconds.

Fellow first-year Katherine Leonard (Carlsbad, Calif./ Cathedral Catholic) also established a school record as she clocked a winning time of 1:02.13 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Elgamal and Leonard also contributed as Chicago posted school standards in two relay events.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Leonard, sophomore Cassie O’Neill (Roseburg, Ore./ Roseburg), Elgamal, and freshman Charlotte Richman (Hoboken, N.J./ High Tech) recorded a time of 1:53.12, which was good for first place.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Richman, freshman Sarah Wynn (Wheaton, Ill./ Wheaton-Warrenville South), Elgamal, and Leonard took second place in the event in 3:45.94.
