Chicago Splits vs. #8 Wheaton, #23 Carthage
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago women's swimming & diving team split a pair of dual meets against nationally-ranked opponents Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool, defeating 23rd-ranked Carthage College 185-100 and falling to #8 Wheaton (Ill.) College 148-139.
Freshman Ellie Elgamal (San Diego, Calif./ Bishop's School) won three events, headlined by a school record and NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying time of 2:08.42 in the 200-yard butterfly. She also led the way in the 100-yard butterfly (58.92) and 200-yard individual medley (2:14.27).
Freshmen Charlotte Richman (Hoboken, N.J./ High Tech) and Lauren Battaglia (Barrington, Ill./ St. Viator) also posted first-place finishes for the Maroons, Richman in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.27) and Battaglia in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.59).
Chicago now stands at 6-2 in dual meet competition, including a 1-2 mark against top-25 foes.
