Maroons Defeat Chicago State
CHICAGO -- The 19th-ranked University of Chicago women's tennis team opened play in calendar year 2008 with a 7-2 victory over NCAA Division I rival Chicago State University Friday night at Bally's Tennis Club.
Sophomore Marissa Lin (Irvine, Calif./ Tustin) won in straight sets at first singles and paired with junior Vindya Dayananda (Kathmandu, Nepal/ Lincoln School) to win 8-4 at first doubles.
Freshman Cristina Simpetru (Braila, Romania/ Nicolae Balcescu) and sophomore Jennifer Walters (Glenely, Md./ Glenely) posted 6-0, 6-0 victories at fifth and sixth singles, respectively, and teamed up for an 8-1 victory at third doubles.
The Maroons improved to 3-0 on the season, while Chicago State dropped its first match of the season.
