Lin, Dayananda Place at ITA Championships
MOBILE, Ala. -- University of Chicago sophomore Marissa Lin (Irvine, Calif./ Tustin) placed third in singles and teamed with junior Vindya Dayananda (Kathmandu, Nepal/ Lincoln School) to take fourth in doubles at the 2007 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Tennis Championships Thursday through Saturday.
Lin opened the singles tournament with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Washington & Lee University's Katie Tabb.
After dropping a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 decision to second-seeded Jackie Shtemberg of the College of New Jersey in the semifinal round, Lin defeated Trinity (Texas) University's Alicia Hunt when Hunt retired in the third set. Lin won the opening set 6-3 before dropping the second set 7-5.
In the doubles competition, Lin and Dayananda won their opening-round match 6-1, 6-3 over Stephanie Kurti and Becky Morse-Karzen of the University of Mary Washington, before falling 7-5, 2-6, 10-4 to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges' Siobhan Finicane and Olivia Muesse in the semifinals.
In the third-place match, the Gustavus Adolphus College tandem of Jenni White and Sierra Krebsbach defeated Lin and Dayananda 6-3, 6-4.
