Dayananda, Lin Conclude Season at NCAA Tournament
ST. PETER, Minn. -- University of Chicago junior Vindya Dayananda (Kathmandu, Nepal/ Lincoln School) and sophomore Marissa Lin (Irvine, Calif./ Tustin) reached the round of 16 in singles competition and fell in the opening round of doubles play Friday at the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships at Gustavus Adolphus College.
Dayananda won her first-round match 6-0, 5-7, 7-6 over the University of California-Santa Cruz's Jessica Ruth. She then dropped a 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 decision to Nicole Pontee of Vassar College in the second round.
Lin defeated Washington & Lee University's Kelly Will 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the first round before falling to 6-0, 6-1 to Kristen Raymond of Bowdoin College in second-round action.
Dayananda and Lin closed out the day with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to the University of Mary Washington tandem of Natalia Fugate and Rebecca Morse-Karzen in the opening round of the doubles championship.
Dayananda and Lin finished the season with respective singles records of 17-5 and 24-4. The duo notched a 20-8 mark in doubles competition.
