Chicago Leads the Way at Home Invite
CHICAGO -- Three Maroons turned in winning performances as the University of Chicago women's indoor track & field team won the nine-team Phoenix Invitational Saturday at the Henry Crown Field House.
Senior Appie Hirve (Burke, Va./ Jefferson Science & Math), sophomore Claire Ray (Park Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius), and freshman Liz Lawton (North Easton, Mass./ Thayer Academy) won respectively in the high jump (1.60 m), weight throw (14.98 m), and 3,000-meter run (10:45.63).
Sophomore Nicole Murphy (Coppell, Texas/ Coppell) was the runner-up in the shot put (12.15 m) and weight throw (14.78 m), while senior Cynthia Lin (State College, Pa./ State College) placed second in the 400-meter dash (1:01.97).
Chicago edged Illinois Wesleyan University 167-143 for the team title. Augustana (Ill.) College finished third with 107 points.
