Maroons Place 2nd at Chicagolands
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- Highlighted by three first-place finishes and three NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying performances, the University of Chicago women's indoor track & field team captured second place at the 20-team Chicagoland Championships Friday night at Lewis University.
Senior Appie Hirve (Burke, Va./ Jefferson Science & Math) and sophomore Claire Ray (Park Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius) met the national provisional-qualifying standards en route to winning the triple jump (11.20 m) and shot put (13.31 m), respectively.
Sophomore Nicole Murphy (Coppell, Texas/ Coppell) also posted a provisional-qualifying distance in the shot put with a 12.84-meter heave that was good for third place.
Freshman Liz Lawton (North Easton, Mass./ Thayer Academy) and junior Rachel Venezia (Canton, Mass./ Canton) placed first and second in the 3,000-meter run with respective times of 10:30.58 and 10:40.85.
Two other Maroons turned in second-place showings, senior Cynthia Lin (State College, Pa./ State College) in the 400-meter dash (1:00.87) and freshman Bianca Scott (Excelsior, Minn./ Minnetonka) in the high jump (1.57 m).
Freshman Stephanie Omueti (Chicago, Ill./ Whitney Young) placed third in the 55-meter dash (7.47).
Lewis edged Chicago 141.5 to 122 to claim the team championship. North Central College finished third with 114.5 points.
