Chicago Wins Wheaton Invitational
WHEATON, Ill. -- Five Maroons combined to win six individual events as the University of Chicago women's outdoor track & field team won the nine-team Wheaton (Ill.) College Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Claire Ray (Park Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius) won a pair of events, taking top honors in the shot put (12.65 m) and discus (42.12 m).
Senior Appie Hirve (Burke, Va./ Jefferson Science & Math) and freshman Stephanie Omueti (Chicago, Ill./ Whitney Young) each won one event and notched a top-three showing in another.
Hirve led the way in the long jump (5.11 m) and was the runner-up in the high jump (1.50 m), while Omeuti won the 100-meter dash (12.99) and placed third in the 200 (27.37).
Junior Rachel Venezia (Canton, Mass./ Canton) and freshman Bianca Scott (Excelsior, Minn./ Minnetonka) also turned in winning performances, Venezia in the 1,500-meter run (4:50.79) and Scott in the high jump (1.50 m).
Chicago collected 218.5 points in the final team standings to 137 for second-place Wheaton.
