Chicago Falls to #28 Aurora

CHICAGO -- Aurora University scored four runs in the top of the first inning and added four more in the top of the fourth as the 28th-ranked Spartans defeated the University of Chicago baseball team 8-0 Tuesday at J. Kyle Anderson Field.

Ray Kosmicki and Kevin Fitzgerald delivered two-run singles in the opening inning, before Bobby Wilson and Dave Warner each knocked in a pair of runs in the fourth.

Shawn Gorsline (2-0) scattered seven hits over six innings for Aurora (13-4), which won its fourth straight game.

Senior right fielder Travis Blane (Valparaiso, Ind./ Valparaiso), junior shortstop Rob Serpico (Schaumburg, Ill./ Hampshire), and freshman designated hitter Trace Capps (Lynwood, Ill./ Bloom) each collected two hits for the Maroons (6-8).

Sophomore starter Marshall Oium (Temecula, Calif./ Great Oak) took the loss (0-2) after six innings of work. Freshman Preston Atteberry (Fort Worth, Texas/ Phillips Academy, Mass.) threw three scoreless innings in relief of Oium. He allowed just one hit while walking two and striking out a pair.
