Chicago Falls in Extra Innings

LISLE, Ill. -- The University of Chicago baseball team rallied from a three-run deficit to send the game into extra innings, but an RBI double by Rick Porcaro in the bottom of the 10th inning gave Benedictine University a 4-3 win over the Maroons Wednesday afternoon at The Lisle Sports Complex.

Trailing 3-0, the Maroons (6-9) scored single runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth frames to even the score. After the Maroons were retired in order in the top of the 10th, pinch-hitter Colin Gilreath led off the Benedictine half of the inning with a walk and came around to score the winning run on Porcaro's double.

Benedictine (9-11) scored its first three runs in the bottom of the second inning off Chicago starter, junior Joe Pankow (Naperville, Ill./ North). Pankow threw six innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs, and one walk, with three strikeouts. Sophomore Dan McConologue (Lockport, Ill./ Lockport) tossed the final three innings, giving up just the one hit in the bottom of the 10th. He fell to 2-3 on the season.

Freshman first baseman Jordan Callahan (Bedford, Ind./ Bedford North Lawrence) got the Maroons on the board with an RBI base hit in the top of the seventh. An Eagle error led to a Chicago run in the eighth, and two Benedictine miscues accounted for another Maroons' run in the ninth. Sophomore second baseman Nick Fazzari's (Wheaton, Ill./ Glenbard South) run-scoring groundout in the ninth tied the game.

The Eagles' fourth pitcher of the game, Dan Vincenti (1-1), pitched the final two innings to notch the victory.
