Chicago Falls to #22 Buena Vista

PHOENIX -- Buena Vista University, ranked 22nd in the most recent NCAA Division III poll, defeated the University of Chicago baseball team 12-7 Saturday on the final day of the Maroons' spring break tour.

Chicago (5-5) led 4-3 after three innings and 7-4 after five, but the Beavers (16-2) plated two runs in the top of the sixth and put up three runs in the seventh and eighth frames en route to the win.

Senior Tommy Gonzalez (Newton, Mass./ North) and junior Rob Serpico (Schaumburg, Ill./ Hampshire) each collected two hits and two RBIs in a losing effort. Senior Kyle Schmitt (Hoffman Estates, Ill./ Fremd) also had a pair of hits to go along with an RBI.

Sophomore starter Marshall Oium (Temecula, Calif./ Great Oak) left the game with a 7-6 lead after six innings, but Buena Vista tallied six runs off two Chicago relievers over the final two frames. Freshman Alex Garcia (Chicago, Ill./ DeLaSalle) took the loss.
