Chicago Announces 2009 Captains
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago Head Football Coach Dick Maloney announced today that defensive backs Chris Leamy (Glen Ellyn, Ill./ Glenbard South) and Cory Swaim (Tinley Park, Ill./ Lincoln-Way East), who will begin their senior year next fall, have been chosen as co-captains for the 2009 campaign.
Leamy is a three-time All-University Athletic Association selection and a two-time UAA All-Academic Recognition Award honoree. Chicago's active career leader with nine interceptions, he is a three-year starter in the secondary. This past season, Leamy led the Maroons with nine pass breakups and ranked second on the club with two interceptions en route to garnering All-UAA Second Team honors.
A two-year starter and two-time UAA All-Academic Recognition Award recipient, Swaim was cited as an honorable mention selection to the 2008 All-UAA Team. In three conference games, he collected 15 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and an interception.
Leamy and Swaim played key roles in the Maroons' 17-14 win over Washington (Mo.) University in the annual Founders Cup clash last November. Leamy was credited with three pass breakups, while Swaim's first-quarter interception set up Chicago's first touchdown.
Chicago kicks off its 2009 season Saturday, September 12 at Kenyon College. The Maroons will entertain Wabash College the following Saturday in the first of five games at Stagg Field.
