Chicago Announces 2009-10 Newcomers

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago Head Men's Basketball Coach Mike McGrath announced today that Matt MacKenzie (Okemos, Mich./ Okemos) and Jourdan Vann (South Bend, Ind./ Washington) have enrolled at the University and plan to play for the Maroons beginning in 2009-10.

MacKenzie averaged 10 points and seven rebounds per game this past season for Head Coach Dan Stolz's Okemos High School team, which won the district championship and notched a 21-3 overall record. The 6'5" MacKenzie was an all-conference first team selection and an all-area honorable mention pick.

Vann, a 5'8" backcourt player, averaged 17.0 points and 3.3 assists per contest playing for Head Coach Chad Johnston at Washington High School. A four-year letter winner, Vann helped lead Washington to an 18-5 record and a sectional runner-up finish. A 93% free throw shooter, he was a two-time all-conference first team selection.

In 10 seasons under McGrath, Chicago has compiled a record of 158-99 (.615) with four University Athletic Association titles and four NCAA Division III tournament appearances.

Chicago tips off the 2009-10 season with an exhibition game at DePaul University on Friday, Nov. 6. The Maroons open the regular season Saturday, Nov. 21 when they entertain Earlham College in the first round of the Midway Classic.
