Maroons Drop Two to #19 Illinois Wesleyan

CHICAGO -- Illinois Wesleyan University, ranked 19th in the NCAA Division III, defeated the University of Chicago softball team 4-1 and 5-0 in doubleheader action Wednesday at Stagg Field.

Game one was tied 1-1 entering the seventh inning when the Titans plated three runs. Lisa Narotsky's run-scoring base hit off Chicago freshman pitcher Sarah Neuhaus (Berkeley, Calif./ Berkeley) accounted for the go-ahead run.

Neuhaus, who delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1 in the third inning, allowed four runs (three earned) on 10 hits. She fanned three and issued a pair of walks as she fell to 6-3 on the year.

Natalie Chase led a 10-hit Illinois Wesleyan attack in the nightcap. Chase was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI as the Titans improved to 16-1. Valerie Hackett (5-0) held the Maroons to two hits in six innings of work.

Junior Kathleen Duffy (Hoffman Estates, Ill./ Barrington), who had one of the Maroons' two base hits, took the loss (4-2) after three innings. In her collegiate debut, freshman Glynis Fagan (Ramsey, N.J./ Ramsey) pitched four innings without allowing an earned run.

Chicago dropped to 10-6.
