LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The University of Chicago softball team split a doubleheader Tuesday at Lake Forest College, winning game one 12-4 in five innings before dropping a 9-5 decision in the nightcap.

Three Maroons homered as part of a 15-hit onslaught in the opener. Junior third baseman Kathleen Duffy (Hoffman Estates, Ill./ Barrington), sophomore right fielder Jenn Simile (Glenshaw, Pa./ Shaler Area), and freshman designated hitter Julia Schneider (Edgewater, N.J./ Dwight-Englewood) each belted their first home run of the year and collected a pair of RBIs. Schneider was 3-for-3, while Duffy and Simile each went 2-for-3.

Sophomore catcher Sara Whaley (Long Beach, Calif./ Bakersfield Christian) and freshman first baseman Liz Payonk (Palos Heights, Ill./ Stagg) also contributed to the Maroons' second-highest run total of the year. Whaley had two hits in three at-bats with two RBIs, while Payonk went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Freshman pitcher Sarah Neuhaus (Berkeley, Calif./ Berkeley) threw 4.2 shutout innings to raise her record to 7-5.

Forester shortstop Tracy Rainey went 4-for-4 with four RBIs as Lake Forest (12-16) defeated the Maroons (11-11) in game two. Chicago led 5-2 after two and one-half innings, but the Foresters plated five runs in the bottom of the third.

Schneider hit her second home run of the day and was 2-for-2 for the game. Over her last three games, she has eight hits in nine at-bats with four extra-base hits and four RBIs. Simile also drove in a pair of runs in a losing effort.

Junior hurler Lauren White (Oakland, Calif./ Bentley School) took the loss (0-3) after allowing six earned runs over 2.1 innings of work.
