Maroons Drop Two at North Central
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The University of Chicago softball team lost both halves of a doubleheader Monday at North Central College, falling 6-4 in game one and 6-0 in the second game.
Chicago led 4-1 after four and one-half innings in the opener, but North Central plated five runs in its half of the fifth. Laura Constantine started the rally with a two-run homer before Erin Drennan's base hit later in the inning brought home the go-ahead run.
Freshman pitcher Sarah Neuhaus (Berkeley, Calif./ Berkeley) was tagged for seven hits and six runs over 4.1 innings of work and fell to 8-6 on the year.
Sophomore catcher Sara Whaley (Long Beach, Calif./ Bakersfield Christian) and freshman first baseman Liz Payonk (Palos Heights, Ill./ Stagg) each drove in a run for the Maroons.
The Cardinals' Katie Crawford (3-0) scattered four hits en route to a complete-game shutout in Monday's nightcap. Mary Caron and Kara Reid each collected a pair of RBIs as North Central improved to 25-10.
Junior pitcher Lauren White (Oakland, Calif./ Bentley School) allowed eight hits and five earned runs as she fell to 1-4 on the year. The Maroons dropped to 13-13.
