Chicago Splits on Spring Break Day Two

CLERMONT, Fla. -- On the second day of its spring break tour, the University of Chicago softball team lost 6-3 to Elmhurst College before defeating Eastern Connecticut State University 1-0 in extra innings.

In the loss to Elmhurst, freshman Sarah Neuhaus (Berkeley, Calif./ Berkeley) had two hits in four at-bats, and sophomore Jenn Simile (Glenshaw, Pa./ Shaler Area) delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double.

Neuhaus then allowed just three hits over eight innings as the Maroons defeated Eastern Connecticut State in Monday's second game. Playing under international tiebreaker rules to start the eighth inning, freshman pinch runner Kat Schoff (Villanova, Pa./ Agnes Irwin School) advanced to third as the result of a sophomore Sara Whaley (Long Beach, Calif./ Bakersfield Christian) sacrifice before scoring the game's lone run on a wild pitch.

Senior shorstop Jen Jacobson (Schaumburg, Ill./ Conant) accounted for the Maroons' lone base hit in Monday's nightcap to extend her hitting streak to 29 games dating back to last season.

Chicago (3-1) resumes play Wednesday with games against Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Western Connecticut State University.
