Neuhaus, Higgins Earn UAA Weekly Accolades

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago freshman softball player Sarah Neuhaus (Berkeley, Calif./ Berkeley) and freshman women's tennis player Kendra Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./ Vero Beach) have been selected as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week in their respective sports, the conference announced today.

In six starts during the Maroons' season-opening spring break tour, Neuhaus posted a 4-2 mark with a 0.61 ERA and four shutouts. In 34.1 innings, she struck out 33 batters against four walks, while holding opponents to a .198 batting average. Neuhaus tossed 27.1 consecutive scoreless innings during her first five career starts.

Higgins went 5-0 in singles play (4-0 at #2, 1-0 at #1) and 3-2 in doubles action (1-2 at #1, 1-0 at #2, 1-0 at #3) as the fourth-ranked Maroons won four of five matches on their spring break tour.  She capped the week with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Emory University’s Lorne McManigle at first singles at the Fab Five Tournament in Atlanta.
