Three Maroons Earn UAA Weekly Accolades

CHICAGO -- Three University of Chicago student-athletes -- sophomore Stephanie Omueti (Chicago, Ill./ Whitney Young) in women's outdoor track & field, sophomore Jacob Solus (Crestwood, Ill./ Oak Forest) in men's outdoor track & field, and freshman Trace Capps (Lynwood, Ill./ Bloom) in baseball -- have been recognized as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week in their respective sports.

Omueti won the 100- and 200-yard dashes with respective NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying times of 12.04 seconds and 25.06 seconds at this past Saturday's Benedictine University Invitational.

Solus won the triple jump competition at the Benedictine Invitational with a national provisional-qualifying distance of 14.26 meters.

Capps delivered critical late-inning hits in back-to-back victories last week. He belted a two-run, game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Maroons topped 24th-ranked Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 2-1 on Apr. 15, then drove in a pair of runs in the top of the ninth in Chicago's 13-10 victory over North Central College two days later.

Solus received his third career UAA Athlete of the Week award and his first of the 2009 outdoor campaign. Omueti and Capps were honored for the first time.
