Three Maroons Named UAA Athletes of the Week

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago women's outdoor track & field athlete Nicole Murphy (Coppell, Texas/ Coppell) and baseball players Nick Fazzari (Wheaton, Ill./ Glenbard South) and Preston Atteberry (Fort Worth, Texas/ Phillips Academy) have been selected as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week in their respective sports, the conference announced today.

Murphy, a junior thrower, met NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying standards in the shot put (13.42 m), discus (42.63 m), and hammer throw (48.15 m) at the Chicago Penultimate Invitational this past Saturday.

Fazzari, a sophomore second baseman, batted .533 (8-for-15) and handled 25 chances in the field without an error as the Maroons posted a 3-2-1 mark on the final week of the 2009 campaign.  He also drew three walks and was hit by pitch on three occasions as he notched a .667 on-base percentage in the six games.

Atteberry threw his first career complete game in the Maroons’ 5-1 win over the Illinois Institute of Technology on May 9.  In seven innings, the freshman right-hander scattered six hits while walking three and fanning three.

Murphy received her first UAA weekly citation of the outdoor track & field season and the seventh of her career. Fazzari and Atteberry were recognized for the first time.
