Chicago Places 6th at UAA Championship
ST. LOUIS -- The University of Chicago volleyball team finished in sixth place at the 2008 University Athletic Association Championship Friday and Saturday at Washington (Mo.) University.
Chicago went 1-2 in pool play, defeating the University of Rochester 25-21, 25-13, 25-20 before falling to Brandeis University 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 24-22 and to second-ranked Emory University 25-13, 25-14, 25-20. Chicago then dropped a 24-26, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 15-13 decision to Case Western Reserve University in the fifth-place match.
Chicago finished the season with a 19-17 overall record, including a 4-7 mark in UAA play. The 19 victories marked the team's winningest season since 2004 and the program's second-most wins since 1997.

Freshman outside hitter Colleen Belak (Louisville, Ky./ Presentation Academy) led the Maroons with 10 kills and a .643 hitting percentage as the Maroons won their first pool play contest. Senior middle blockers Kerry Dornfeld (Cary, Ill./ Cary-Grove) and Katie Volzer (North Canton, Ohio/ Lake) each collected eight kills. The Maroons hit .375 on the day.
Brandeis def. Chicago 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 24-22 (Pool Play - Nov. 7)
Freshman outside hitter Isis Smalls (Humble, Texas/ Atascocita) hit a team season-high 21 kills in a losing effort. Dornfeld and Belak contributed 13 and 11 kills, repsectively, while Dornfeld collected four blocks. Freshman libero Liane Rousseau (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Mount Notre Dame) led four Maroons with 20-plus digs with 24. Senior setter Nikki Boddicker (Encino, Calif./ Buckley School) was credited with 54 assists.

Smalls led the Maroons with nine kills and a .318 hitting percentage, while Rousseau collected 14 digs.
Case def. Chicago 24-26, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 15-13 (Fifth Place Match - Nov. 8)
Rousseau set a school record with 38 digs as the Maroons fell in the fifth-place contest. Smalls hit 16 kills in a team season-high 46 attempts, while Belak had a career-high 31 digs to go along with 10 kills. Dornfeld and sophomore outside hitter Elizabeth Kossnar (Park Ridge, Ill./ Maine South) hit 13 and 10 kills, respectively.
