Maroons Place Four on All-UAA Team

CHICAGO -- Four University of Chicago women's basketball players have been selected to the 2009 All-University Athletic Association Team, the conference announced today.

Junior Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) and freshman Bryanne Halfhill (Canfield, Ohio/ Canfield) earned Second Team accolades, while senior Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) and sophomore Karly Kasper (Palos Park, Ill./ Stagg) garnered honorable mention recognition.

Hackney, who earned All-UAA honors for the third time in as many seasons, averaged 9.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this past season. She led the conference in blocked shots (1.8 per game) for the second straight year and ranked among the league leaders in field goal percentage (4th, .500) and defensive rebounding (9th, 4.4).

Halfhill led the Maroons and ranked ninth in the UAA with 11.6 points per contest. She also stood third in the league with 2.0 three-point field goals per game (48 total) and 10th with a .340 three-point field goal percentage. Halfhill tallied double digits on 14 occasions, with four 20-point efforts.

Leach was the Maroons' top scorer in conference play (12.9) and second-leading scorer overall (11.1). A three-time All-UAA honorable mention pick, Leach ranked fifth in the league in free throw percentage (.726) and eighth in steals (1.6 per game). She led the team with 16 double-digit scoring performances.

Kasper made her first career appearance on the All-UAA Team after averaging 7.1 points and 5.8 boards per game. Her 2.2 offensive rebounds per contest placed her 10th in the Association.

Chicago posted a 17-8 overall record and placed fourth in the UAA with an 8-6 mark this past season. Four UAA teams advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament, and all four were selected as regional hosts.
