Siggy Nachtergaele Named NSCAA Scholar All-American
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior women's soccer player Siggy Nachtergaele (Davis, Calif./ Davis) has been named to the 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Collegiate Scholar All-America Team.
A Second Team selection, Nachtergaele was one of 35 College Division Scholar All-Americans representing NCAA Division II and III and NAIA institutions.
Nachtergaele, who holds a 3.51 grade point average in biochemistry, was a three-time University Athletic Association All-Academic Recognition Award honoree (2006-08) and an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District pick (2006).
A midfielder, Nachtergaele capped her playing career with selection to the 2008 All-Central Region Second Team. She was the Maroons' second-leading scorer this past season with six goals and two assists for 14 points. She led the club with four game-winning goals, including deciding tallies in a 1-0 win over Washington (Mo.) University in the regular season finale and in the Maroons' NCAA tournament opening-round victory over Wittenberg University.
Chicago posted a 13-6-2 overall record and reached the round-of-16 at the 2008 NCAA Division III tournament before falling to the eventual national champion, Messiah College. The Maroons were ranked 16th in the season's final NSCAA coaches poll.
