Claire Ray, Stephanie Omueti Garner UAA Outdoor Awards
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago junior thrower Claire Ray (Park Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius) and sophomore sprinter Stephanie Omueti (Chicago, Ill./ Whitney Young) have been named the University Athletic Association Women's Outdoor Track & Field Most Outstanding Field and Running Performers, respectively.
Ray won three events -- all with NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying distances -- and set two conference records at this past weekend's UAA Championship at Carnegie Mellon University. She established Association marks in the hammer throw (51.47 m) and discus (45.10 m) in addition to taking top honors in the shot put (13.95 m).
Omueti won the 100- and 200-meter dashes (12.75 seconds, 25.33 seconds) and helped the Maroons to a second-place finish in the 400-meter relay (49.11 seconds).
Ray and Omueti led Chicago to a third-place UAA finish. Washington (Mo.) University won the meet with 231.5 points, while Emory University and Chicago were next with 169.5 and 167 points, respectively.
