Maroons Place 7th at UAA Championship

CLEVELAND -- The University of Chicago men's cross country team finished seventh among eight teams at the 2009 University Athletic Association Championship Saturday at Case Western Reserve University.

Chicago finished with 175 points in the final team standings. New York University won the meet with 41 points, followed by Emory University and Carnegie Mellon University with 67 each.

Junior Nick Nunez (Algonquin, Ill./ Dundee-Crown) was the Maroons' top finisher. His time of 27:25 on the eight-kilometer course was good for 29th place out of 76 runners.

Junior Arthur Baptist (Arlington Heights, Ill./ Prospect) captured 34th place (27:42), while sophomore Mahmoud Bahrani (Vernon Hills, Ill./ Vernon Hills) and freshman Bill Whitmore (Rocky River, Ohio/ St. Ignatius) finished 38th (27:51) and 39th (27:53), respectively.

NYU's Zach Maher led the field with a time of 26:06.

Chicago returns to action at the Midwest Regional Saturday, Nov. 14 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
