Maroons, Judges Play to Scoreless Tie

BOSTON -- Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Giusto (Davie, Fla./ Heritage) made six saves en route to his conference-leading 10th shutout of the season as the University of Chicago and Brandeis University played to a scoreless draw in University Athletic Association men's soccer action Sunday afternoon.

The tie leaves the Maroons (11-3-3 overall, 4-1-1 UAA) in sole possession of third place in the league with one game left to play.

Giusto stopped five shots in the second half and one in the overtime to post his fifth shutout in six UAA matches. His 10 shutouts on the season are one shy of the school record.

The Maroons outshot Brandeis (6-9-3, 1-4-2) by a 19-12 margin, including a 7-3 edge in the two overtime periods. Brandeis netminder Matt Lynch stopped 11 shots, four of them in overtime.

The Judges played the final 5:20 of the first overtime period and all of the second down one player after a Brandeis player was issued a red card at the 94:40 mark.

Chicago closes out the regular season Saturday, Nov. 7 when it hosts UAA rival Washington (Mo.) University at 11 a.m. A victory coupled with losses by Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Rochester would give the Maroons the conference championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
