Maroons Defeat Case 3-0
CHICAGO -- Three different Maroons scored as the University of Chicago defeated Case Western Reserve University 3-0 in University Athletic Association men's soccer action Sunday at Stagg Field.
The win moved Chicago (9-2-2 overall, 3-1 UAA) into a tie for second place in the conference standings.
Sophomore midfielder Stanton Coville (Powell, Ohio/ Olentangy Liberty) scored the only goal the Maroons would need when he converted a penalty kick at the 13:46 mark. The goal was Coville's seventh of the season and his second game-winner in as many games.
Senior defender Drew Marshall (Rockford, Ill./ Boylan) gave the Maroons a 2-0 lead when he notched his third goal of the season following a corner kick off the foot of junior midfielder Ryan Fitzgerald (Beaverton, Ore./ Westview) at 39:35.
Junior forward Alex Clifford (Andover, Mass./ Phillips Academy) capped the scoring with his fourth goal of the year on a shot from the far right side of the field with just five seconds remaining in the contest. Freshman midfielder Daniel Hahn (Plano, Texas/ Plano) recorded the assist.
With four saves on the day, sophomore goalkeeper Chris Giusto (Davie, Fla./ Heritage) posted his UAA-leading seventh shutout of the season.
Ben Yabrow stopped seven shots for Case (6-6-3, 0-3-1).
Chicago returns to non-conference play Wednesday, Oct. 21 when it hosts Anderson University at 6 p.m.
