Maroons Tie Centre

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Both teams tallied in the game's first nine minutes but were held scoreless the rest of the way as the University of Chicago men's soccer team battled Centre College to a 1-1 tie Friday evening at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Centre (5-2-1) struck first when Tony Distler scored unassisted 6:19 into the contest.

Chicago (4-1-1) answered just over two minutes later when sophomore midfielder Stanton Coville (Powell, Ohio/ Olentangy Liberty) notched his second goal of the season off an assist from freshman midfielder Garrett Laird (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) at the 8:35 mark.

Chicago, which extended its unbeaten streak to four games, outshot Centre 12-7 on the night.

Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Giusto (Davie, Fla./ Heritage) and his Centre counterpart Aaron Arndt each stopped six shots in the double-overtime affair.

Chicago returns home Sunday, Sept. 20 to host Aurora University at 2 p.m.
