Maroons Fall at #19 Dominican
RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Dominican University's Roberto Almazan scored twice in the second half as the 19th-ranked Stars defeated the visiting University of Chicago men's soccer team 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
Almazan scored unassisted at the 55:19 mark and again at 75:25 off assists from Edwin Lagunas and Ryan Roberts.
Chicago got on the board in the 84th minute when freshman midfielder Daniel Hahn (Plano, Texas/ Plano) scored his first career goal. Junior forward Alex Clifford (Andover, Mass./ Phillips Academy) picked up the assist.
The Maroons (1-1) outshot Dominican 17-14 on the day and held a 5-1 edge during the game's final 14 minutes.
Making his first start of the year, sophomore goalkeeper Chris Giusto (Davie, Fla./ Heritage) collected three saves. Maxwell Gutbrod stopped five shots for Dominican (2-0).
Saturday's game marked the first of the Maroons' five-game road swing which continues Tuesday, Sept. 8 at Lake Forest College.
