Maroons Defeat Emory
CHICAGO -- Senior defender Drew Marshall (Rockford, Ill./ Boylan) scored the only goal of the match early in the second half as the University of Chicago defeated Emory University 1-0 in University Athletic Association men's soccer action Saturday at Stagg Field.
Marshall took a cross from freshman forward Yoni Einhorn (Winter Park, Fla./ Winter Park) and fired a 12-yard shot past Emory netminder Trenton Spindler at the 52:45 mark. The goal was Marshall's second of the season.
Chicago (7-2-2 overall, 1-1 UAA) held slim advantages in shots (8-7) and corners (7-6) as it defeated Emory (8-3, 0-2) for the first time since 2006.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Giusto (Davie, Fla./ Heritage) collected a pair of saves for the Maroons en route to posting his fifth shutout of the year, tying him for the UAA lead.
The Maroons remained unbeaten at Stagg Field this season (3-0-1) and in their last six home affairs (4-0-2) dating back to last year.
Chicago continues its three-game UAA homestand Friday, Oct. 16 when it entertains the University of Rochester at 5 p.m.
