Maroons Extend Unbeaten Streak to Six
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Three different Maroons scored as the University of Chicago men's soccer team defeated host Illinois Wesleyan University 3-0 Saturday night. The victory extended Chicago's unbeaten streak to six matches (4-0-2).
Chicago (5-1-2) got on the board in the 35th minute when sophomore midfielder Stanton Coville (Powell, Ohio/ Olentangy Liberty) tallied off an assist from junior midfielder Kenzo Manners (Hamamatsu City, Japan/ Hamamatsu-Kita). The goal was Coville's fourth of the season and his second game-winner.
The score remained 1-0 until the Maroons tallied twice during an 11-minute span midway through the second half on goals from freshman forward Yoni Einhorn (Winter Park, Fla./ Winter Park) at 62:20 and freshman midfielder Steven Chase (Cumberland, Maine/ Greely) at 73:50. Freshman midfielder Daniel Hahn (Plano, Texas/ Plano) assisted on Chase's goal.
Einhorn netted his second goal of the campaign, while Chase scored for the first time of his college career.
Sophomore netminder Chris Giusto (Davie, Fla./ Heritage) stopped three shots to notch his fourth shutout of the year.
Illinois Wesleyan fell to 3-4-2.
Chicago returns to action at Stagg Field Wednesday, Sept. 30 when it hosts Elmhurst College at 4 p.m.
