Maroons Notch Third Straight Shutout Win

DECATUR, Ill. -- Junior forward Alex Clifford's (Andover, Mass./ Phillips Academy) goal late in the first half propelled the University of Chicago men's soccer team to its third consecutive victory, a 1-0 decision Tuesday evening at Millikin University.

Clifford scored his second goal of the year at the 38:29 mark for the only tally of the contest.

Chicago's (4-1) defensive unit limited the host Big Blue (3-3) to six shots. Sophomore netminder Chris Giusto (Davie, Fla./ Heritage) needed to make just one save as the Maroons recorded their third consecutive shutout. Millikin goalkeeper Maxwell Gutbrod stopped five shots to keep his team in the match.

During their last four matches -- all on the road -- the Maroons have kept opponents off the scoreboard for 284:35.

Chicago wraps up its five-game road swing Friday night, Sept. 18, when it faces Centre College at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.
