Maroons Defeat NYU
NEW YORK CITY -- Junior midfielders Kenzo Manners (Hamamatsu City, Japan/ Hamamatsu-Kita) and Andy Dallos (Weston, Mass./ Weston) scored early and late as the University of Chicago defeated host New York University 2-0 in University Athletic Association men's soccer action Friday afternoon.
The win keeps the Maroons (11-3-2 overall, 4-1 UAA) in at least a tie for second place in the Association standings, pending the outcome of other league matches Friday evening.
Manners opened the scoring 7:59 into the contest when he headed in a ball from 10 yards away off an assist from junior forward Alex Clifford (Andover, Mass./ Phillips Academy). The goal was his second of the season and came on one of only two Chicago shots in the first half.
NYU (5-8-2, 0-3-2) outshot the Maroons 5-2 in the opening period, but Chicago held a 7-3 edge in the second half.
Dallos gave the Maroons an insurance goal at the 81:56 mark when he took a feed from freshman forward Yoni Einhorn (Winter Park, Fla./ Winter Park) and beat NYU netminder Marek Urbanski from eight yards out.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Giusto (Davie, Fla./ Heritage) stopped two shots en route to his UAA-leading ninth shutout of the year.
The Maroons play their final regular season game of the year Sunday, Nov. 1 at conference rival Brandeis University. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. (Eastern) in Boston.
