Maroons Sweep UAA Weekly Awards
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago sophomore tailback Tommy Parks (Crown Point, Ind./ Crown Point), sophomore free safety Danny Polaneczky (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Turpin), and freshman kicker/punter Jeff Sauer (Saddle River, N.J./ Highlands) have been selected as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for football, the conference announced today.
Parks was honored as the league's top offensive standout, while Polaneczky and Sauer were chosen for defense and special teams, respectively. The trio helped lead the Maroons to a 37-36 double overtime victory at Kenyon College in their season opener this past Saturday.
Parks rushed for a career-high 186 yards on 32 carries, including the go-ahead touchdown in the second overtime period. Parks, who earlier in the game scored on a 43-yard scamper, averaged 5.8 yards per carry on the day.
Polaneczky collected 12 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception. On the game's final play, he broke up the Lords' two-point conversion attempt to preserve the victory.
Sauer, in his college debut, hit a 37-yard field goal as time expired in regulation to send the game into overtime. He also averaged 42.2 yards on six punts while placing two of six kicks inside the Kenyon 20-yard line.
All three players received their first career UAA weekly citation.
