Three Maroons Earn UAA Weekly Recognition
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago junior women's soccer player Claire Denz (Wheaton, Ill./ North), sophomore women's cross country runner Rachel Ohman (Solana Beach, Calif./ Torrey Pines), and freshman football player Dee Brizzolara (Aurora, Ohio/ Aurora) have been selected as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week in their respective sports, the conference announced today.
Denz spearheaded the Maroons' defensive unit in back-to-back shutout victories last week. Led by Denz, Chicago allowed just five shots in a 1-0 double overtime decision over the 25th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (Sept. 23) before limiting Aurora University to seven shots -- one on goal -- in a 2-0 victory three days later.
Ohman paced the Maroons with an eighth-place finish among 333 runners as the 22nd-ranked Maroons finished runner-up at the 21-team Brissman-Lundeen Invitational at Augustana (Ill.) College. She clocked a time of 20:29 on the 5.42-kilometer course.
Brizzolara caught seven passes for 120 yards and finished the night with 213 all-purpose yards in the Maroons' 31-6 loss to Elmhurst College. He caught a 50-yard touchdown pass and logged a 48-yard kickoff return.
Denz, Ohman, and Brizzolara each received their first career UAA weekly citation.
