Maroons Win Two at Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. -- Sophomore outside hitter Colleen Belak (Louisville, Ky./ Presentation Academy) collected 25 kills and 35 digs as the University of Chicago volleyball team swept a pair of matches Saturday at Wheaton (Ill.) College.

Chicago opened the day with a 25-18, 25-16, 25-11 win over Monmouth College (5-5) behind nine kills and 11 digs from Belak. Sophomore outside hitter Isis Smalls (Humble, Texas/ Atascocita) added eight kills and three blocks, while freshman middle blocker Caroline Brander (River Forest, Ill./ Trinity) finished with six kills and four blocks.

Belak then recorded a season-high 16 kills to go along with 24 digs and four blocks in Saturday's second match as the Maroons then defeated Concordia University Chicago (7-5) 15-25, 25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 17-15 to improve to 9-5 on the season. Brander clubbed 10 kills in 20 attempts without an error, while freshman middle blocker Katie Trela (Glencoe, Ill./ Regina Dominican) contributed five blocks in Chicago's third consecutive victory.

Chicago (9-5) is idle until Friday when it returns to Wheaton for a two-day tournament.
