Maroons Win, Lose at Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE -- The University of Chicago volleyball team split a pair of matches on the road Wednesday night, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran College 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15 before falling to the third-ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-16.

Sophomore outside hitter Isis Smalls (Humble, Texas/ Atascocita) led the Maroons' attack with 12 kills in the win over Wisconsin Lutheran (4-3). Freshman libero Samamtha Brown (Louisville, Ky./ Mercy Academy) and sophomore libero Liane Rousseau (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Mount Notre Dame) collected 24 and 20 digs, respectively, while sophomore setter Lauren Tarpey (Greensboro, N.C./ Grimsley) registered 44 assists.

Chicago (4-3) defeated the third-ranked Titans (5-0) in the first set before dropping the next three in Wednesday's second contest.

Smalls again led the way with 16 kills against just four errors in 35 attempts, good for a .343 hitting percentage. Brown was credited with 33 digs, marking her third 30-dig effort in seven matches on the season.

The Maroons return to action Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11-12 at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational.
