Chicago Finishes 6th at UAA Championship

CLEVELAND -- The University of Chicago women's cross country team placed sixth out of eight teams at the 2009 University Athletic Association Championship Saturday at Case Western Reserve University.

The Maroons recorded 151 points in the final team standings. Washington (Mo.) University won the event with 37 points, followed by Case (59) and New York University (73).

Sophomore Rachel Ohman (Solana Beach, Calif./ Torrey Pines) earned All-UAA Second Team accolades as a result of her 13th-place finish. She clocked a time of 24:19 on the six-kilometer course.

Four Maroons, led by junior Molly Peverada (Hampden, Maine/ Hampden Academy), finished between 33rd and 36th place. Peverada covered the course in 24:52, while junior Elizabeth Bright (Brighton, Mont./ Montana Academy), sophomore Jane Simpson (Western Springs, Ill./ Lyons Township), and junior Erin Cary (Latrobe, Pa./ Greater Latrobe) finished nine seconds apart.

Washington's Taryn Surtees paced the 78-runner field with a time of 22:42.

Chicago returns to action Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Midwest Regional at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
